Speech manuscript (rewrite ver)

Hello everyone. I’m Yoshitaka Ishikura.I’m a sophomore at KGU.Through studying English at KGU I realized it’s important to learn many things. Some of which are; I realized that facing a person and having the courage to speak is a good way to learn English through my college life.First I will talk about my experience. After that I will talk about my friend who inspired me and made me realize many things. In conclusion I will talk about what I will do with the experience.In spring last year I talked to foreigners in English. That was my first time having a conversation with foreigners in English. However perhaps I shouldn’t call it a conversation because I couldn’t understand what he was saying or respond in English.Here’s an interesting story at the moment.My friend said to me “What’s up?” when I met him.Of course I didn’t know the meaning.I said “wait what do you mean? What’s up? …..What is UP!” I looked up and said “it’s …..sky ”He was laughing at me. After that I knew it meant hello. After this funny incident I decided I wanted to listen better, speak better and know more slang.I tried to hard work to improve especially with my speaking and listening skills.After last year’s spring I could speak in English better than I could previously. It was still not good but I could greet the exchange students. However there was another problem. I realized that even if I could speak English , this means nothing if I don’t know what to talk about!Now it’s not such a big problem because I can speak better than before but at the time I was nervous and shy. So I couldn’t have a conversation in English especially with a person I just met. Now, I will talk about my friend who inspired me. She and I have the same major. She is full of energy and is nice to everyone. A thing I was surprised with is that even as she was talking with exchange students in English, her personality was the same.Her English skills were not much higher than mine.Her style looked really brave to me.I was wondering how she does it, and how can I talk like her.After a while I noticed that when she has a conversation, she always speaks first and can switch between funny and serious.I realized that being face to face with a person and having the courage to speak are important aspects of learning English. Next year I am fortunate to have the opportunity to study abroad. I will go to a college where I will be the only Japanese person. It’s going to be very tough to study abroad. However, I won’t be afraid because I know through experience that facing people and interacting with native speakers is an important and positive aspect of learning English.

Good evening. Ladies and gentlemen. How are you doing?
This time I’d like to show you something really cool.
Have you been laughing recently? Laughing is a really important thing in life. Some scientists say, a person who laugh often will get ill more easily than a person who laughs a lot. Recently, There aren’t many TV shows or films that give you true humor, are there? People are starving for true humor.
So let me introduce you to this. Vi va la bam! This is humor.
A show in this DVD is not like any other comedy you’ve seen before. Vi va la bam brings you a new kind of humor.
Now you may think that” yeah everybody always says that?” So Let me show you the proof.
40% of people in the US already have this DVD set. Watching vi va la bam is part of their life now. You listen to the customers comments.
First a women who is 34 years old and house keeper, That was really amazing. Actually my family didn’t get along with each other. Everybody was doing their own thing, but after we began watching this, our family has changed. Everybody came to care about one another. I feel laughing is really important in life. A Thank you is not enough to describe our feelings!
Next A boy who is a 17 year old student. `I can definitely say that watching vi va la bam is one of the best things in my life. Vi va la bam kicks the stress out of me every time. Because of this, I became a really nice and friendly guy. I’m totally different now after seeing this sweet DVD.
See? This DVD can make life much better. If you see this, You will laugh more than ever before. Which means you are going to have a more healthy and full life.
This DVD has 6 hours of crazy and hilarious episodes. That’s longer than any other comedy DVD. If you really love the show, you can also watch the making of vi va la bam.
But don’t worry too much about it, 2 hours of bonus features are also included. Now how many disc are there: you may ask. Because of today’s advanced technology, there are only 2 discs. This DVD only needs that much. With vi va la bam episodes that you’d never see on TV. Vi va la bam with staff you’d never see on TV. You can’t miss it. And I know you won’t. We will be waiting for your call.

Good morning. Everyone. I’m W-101. it is time for the weather news. Let’s take a look at weather report.
In the MT. Today..….sunny. good for go outside. It may get up to 33 degree. Tomorrow….. rain but don’t worry about it. The rainwill stop just 11:25 a.m. Wednesday….rain. not good for hiking. Thursday…cloudy. It get up to 33 degree. It will feel hotter because of the wind will make you feel hot. So I don’t recommend go outside on Thursday. Friday and Saturday will be frippin hot day. Because of controlling shield of sunlight. Sanday …it will be acid rain all day. Stay home if you can. If you go outside, wear great armor. That’s all. Have a nice day . don’t forget rain time.

Finnaly . spider-man 7 come to screen. Next spider-man use revolutionary new system. Of course you can watch the movie like ever you did. But you wear this. DDD helmet. There is another world. You can see the movie in the movie. Let me explain more. If you wear this, you can see the movie from anywhere in the movie. Yeah you can enter the spidy’s world. And you will feel every character’s emotion more close than ever. Oh are you worrying cost of DDD helmet? Don’t worry about it. You go to theater like usually you do when watch movies. The theater lend you. Of course it’s free. So enjoy the new system as times as you want. Next, let’s talk about story of this movie. Next’s enemy is also strong. The name is bean-man. And we got the picture. It is here!! Yeah I know what you wanna say. Looks not strong. But! He has a great power. Just walk close a people people laugh. That’s right . his power is making people laugh. Can spidy make people lough than bean?? It is almost story of this movie. And we have a big secret about spidy. If you don’t want to hear that. Close your ears. Did you close? Okay. Peter’s son. The name is ……potter. Will get a power like peter. And fight with him. Sounds great. Isn’t it? Coming next Friday. Don’t miss it.

Speaking Homework

1. When we drink a Japanese tea, if a thing that is part of the powder of tea float straight. Which means it bring good luck in Japan.
2. Some people in Japan after they saw black cat, believe bring bad luck.
3. I think nothing happen after that.
4. If a black cat walked in front of me, I think something bad will happen to me.
5. Shooting star, Whistling in night, Pushing at hair whirl, Hiding own bellybutton in lightning, putting pillow at north side.
6. My parents and my grand mother told me that. They told me about answers of 5 question.
7. I think people in Japan think as people in the U.S. do. 7 is lucky number in Japan too. I don’t know why.
8. I think we don’t have that kind of number. But if I have to say that, I say 4, because 4’s pronunciation is same as a word which mean death in Japan. In Japan fortune telling is really popular. Some of them are really traditional. And they say some day or month or years are unlucky or lucky.
9. I don’t believe them, because I think if I care about that every time, it will make me sick. I believe whatever I want to believe.10. Actually it never came true to me. But opposite thing happened. After a black cat walked in front of me, I got a money from my grandmother.

(1)Why is debate necessary?
Because it is good way to find out the essence of a thing from many different angles and the most appropriate solution or the answer to the matter.

(2)Basic format of cross-examination debate.
1)First Affirmative construction speech. 2)Negative cross-examination. 3)First Negative constructive.4)Affirmative cross-examination. 5)Second Affirmative constructive. 6)Negative cross-examination. 7)Second Negative constructive. 8)Affirmative cross-examination 9)First negative rebuttal 10)First Affirmative rebuttal. 11) Second Negative rebuttal 12)Second Affirmative rebuttal.

(3)What is constructive speech?
Affirmative
1) Finding the problems of the present system 2) Presenting a “plan” to solve the problems. 3) Providing information that the plan will work. 4) Showing the benefits of the plan.
Negative
1) Explaining that the present system doesn’t have any problems or even if any, they are miner. 2) Explaining that the plan of the affirmative will not solve the problems. 3) Explaining the disadvantages or bad points the plan will bring about.

(4)What is rebuttal speech?
This is a turn to attack the shortcomings of the opponent’s argument. No new argument may be presented at this stage of debate. Rebuttal has to be limited to the area of argument already presented before.

(5)What is cross-examination?
This is questions and answers time. Do not state your opinions. Simply ask questions. Ask questions about the soundness of the opponent’s argument. For example, the appropriateness of their evidence and reasoning.


2. Write your own constructive speech on the topic we debated in the crass.

Proposition of policy
Resolved: That the voting age must be lowered from 20 to 18 years old.
I was in Affirmative side. I will write about Affirmative constructive speech.

Affirmative
1. Find the problems of the present voting age.
In these days many young people are not interested in political affairs. 18 and 19 years old people cannot vote and affect political affairs even though they are already working and involved in a society.

2. Find the answers how serious those problems are.
If this situation is continuing, young people who don’t think seriously about political affairs are increasing. That will be reflected in an election and the government won’t be able to take nation’s opinions good enough.

3. Find the answers that those problems cannot be solved without changing the status quo.
I didn’t make the constructive speech about this topic.

4. Find a plan to solve the problem.
Making the voting age is lowered from 20 to 18 years old.

5. Find advantage of the plan.
If the plan that 18 and 19 years old can vote is accepted, the government is able to get more attention to political affairs from young people and listen more opinions of nation. If the government can listen more nations’ opinions, it is going to be easy to reflect them to the society more perfectly.

6. Find the evidences and reasonings for the plan to be workable.
Many countries are already adopting the plan. There are records that proof good influence of the plan to political affairs. We can guess what happen if the government accepts the plan from the records.

I wrote this in other class.

Position of parents

This news said about bad effect of advertising of foods to toddlers. This is part of problems that influence of TV to children. Now that influence is proofed by many experiments. For example in the U.S there is a record that people made a limit for advertising about foods and made overweight children decrease.
However maybe there is some trick in this kind of results because this is about toddlers in this case. Who are giving foods them? They are their parents. If the subjects are school children what they buy is up to them. So they can say that they buy first food or snacks because of advertising. However in this case the subjects are toddlers so we can say that their parents should have the responsibility of foods for them.
In these days we see advertising about snacks and first foods many times. However because of this situation parents have to take care of toddlers who are in time that they get influence easily.
